Dahua vs Huawei IdeaHub for Saudi meeting rooms and classrooms: real differences in software, camera, microphones and touch, and which suits each room.

Choose Dahua for classrooms, Google and Android-based workflows and bright rooms, and Huawei IdeaHub for organisations on Huawei Cloud Meeting or WeLink and for long, video-heavy boardrooms. The IdeaHub S3's 24 microphones reach 15 m, while Dahua's MC480-U-S2 offers 64-point touch and Google Play through EDLA certification.
On a shop listing, every interactive display reads much the same: 4K, a smart operating system, Wi-Fi 6 and a built-in camera. The differences that decide whether a board suits a room, such as which meeting software it runs, how far its microphones reach and whether it has a camera at all, rarely make the headline, so buyers end up comparing megapixels and prices.
Blue Edge supplies both Dahua and Huawei IdeaHub boards, so this comparison has no reason to favour either brand. If you are new to the category, start with our guide to how interactive touch screens work. This guide covers only the differences that change a decision, recommends a brand for each type of room, and ends with the Saudi checks and mistakes to avoid.
Software is the biggest difference, followed by camera and microphone design, touch and the range of models on offer. Across the boards Blue Edge supplies, these are the documented differences:

On the basics. Both ranges offer 4K screens in 65, 75 and 86 inches, both run Windows through an optional OPS module, and both let a laptop's meeting use the board's camera and microphones, known as BYOM.
It decides whether Google's apps run on the board. Dahua says its EDLA-certified MC480-U-S2 ships with Google's apps pre-installed and takes third-party Android apps from the Play Store, which matters for schools and companies already working in Google Workspace.
Dahua suits rooms built around teaching and writing, and Huawei's S3 suits long rooms built around calls. These numbers separate the shortlisted models:
Dahua, in most cases. For rooms that only teach, the ST470-L-S2 Education board comes with pressure-sensitive pens and two-screen wireless sharing, and where lessons also go online, the MC470-C-S3 (DHI-LPH86-MC470-C-S3 in the 86-inch size) adds a 52 MP camera and eight microphones.

Huawei's IdeaHub S3 has the edge in long rooms, with the longest microphone reach in either range and a telephoto lens that gives a closer view of far seats. Dahua's MC480-U-S2 is the strongest alternative where workshops at the board matter as much as calls, since it lists the most touch points of any model here.

The one built around the software you already use: IdeaHub for Huawei's own platforms, Dahua's EDLA models for Google, and either brand for Microsoft Teams or Zoom on Windows. Our guide to video conferencing set-up for Saudi meeting rooms covers the rest of the room.
Each brand wins different rooms, and for Windows-based meetings the brand matters least. The table sets out the pick from each range.
| Room or need | Dahua pick | Huawei pick | Deciding difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classroom without video calls | ST470-L-S2 | No camera-free IdeaHub in the range | Only Dahua offers a board without camera or microphones |
| Hybrid classroom or training room | MC470-C-S3 | IdeaHub B3 | Dahua's 8 mics rated to 12 m against the B3's 6 mics at 10 m |
| Google Workspace or Android apps | MC480-U-S2 or MC470-C-S3 | IdeaHub B3 Base | Google's EDLA certification on both Dahua models |
| Huawei Cloud Meeting, WeLink or SIP | Any DeepHub, via an OPS module or BYOM | IdeaHub S3, or S2 for SIP | Huawei's apps run natively on IdeaHub |
| Long, video-heavy boardroom | MC480-U-S2 | IdeaHub S3 | The S3's 15 m pickup and telephoto lens |
| Teams or Zoom on Windows | Any DeepHub with an OPS module | IdeaHub S2, S3 or B3 with an OPS module | No real difference |
| Room needing 98 inches | MC470-P 98-inch | IdeaHub B3 Base 98-inch | One series each |
| Bright room near glazing | MC480-U-S2 | IdeaHub S3 | Dahua's 500-nit panel against a typical 350 nits |
For most buyers, the meeting platform decides the brand: Huawei IdeaHub for Huawei Cloud Meeting, WeLink or SIP, Dahua for Google-based organisations, classrooms and bright rooms, and either brand for Teams or Zoom through an OPS module. Room length then separates the S3 from Dahua's MC480-U-S2.
Yes, but keep one meeting platform across them. Running Teams or Zoom through an OPS module on every board gives staff the same experience on both brands, while mixing DeepHub Meeting and Huawei Cloud Meeting means two interfaces to support and train.
Four local factors can tip the choice: language, data, daylight and support. None of them shows up in a spec sheet comparison.
Check it on the model you shortlist. Huawei lists Arabic among the interface languages of the IdeaHub S2 and S3; for Dahua, confirm it on the exact model, and on both brands test Arabic handwriting and right-to-left documents before rollout.
That depends on the platform rather than the brand: Google's services on Dahua's EDLA models, Huawei Cloud Meeting on IdeaHub and whichever platform runs on an OPS module each keep content in their own cloud. The Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) governs how personal data is processed and transferred outside the Kingdom, so confirm which platforms your organisation approves before choosing a brand.
They favour the brighter panel. Dahua's MC480-U-S2 is rated at 500 nits against a typical 350 nits for the IdeaHub S3, which helps in rooms with large windows, though keeping the board out of direct sun matters more than either figure.
Ask who handles warranty claims in the Kingdom for each brand, and whether pens, remote controls and OPS modules are stocked locally. Buying both ranges from one supplier keeps that to a single contact.

Most of them come from comparing hardware before software. They are listed worst first.
List the meeting software and cloud services your organisation already uses and approves. That answer often decides the brand before any hardware comparison, so settle it with your IT team first.
Then describe each room: its length, whether it hosts calls, how bright it is and how many people write on the board at once. Run each room through the flowchart below, and shortlist one model per brand where both fit.

Finally, quote both shortlisted models with the same line items, including brackets, OPS modules and installation. Blue Edge also provides IT installation and configuration for the final set-up of either brand.
No. HarmonyOS is Huawei's own operating system, used on the IdeaHub S2, S3 and B3 with Huawei's meeting apps, while every Dahua board in Blue Edge's range runs Android. If your rooms need Android apps on a Huawei board, the IdeaHub B3 Base runs Android 15.
Yes. Huawei's IdeaHub S2 has a physical lens cap and the S3 an electronically controlled privacy shield, while Dahua lists an automatic flip cover for the MC480-U-S2's camera. For executive offices and rooms that also host confidential in-person meetings, check the cover on the exact model you shortlist.
Less than the figure suggests. Dahua's MC480-U-S2 combines three 50 MP sensors for still photos, but its video runs at 8 MP (3840 x 2160), with up to 9× digital zoom, gallery mode, auto-framing and voice tracking. Its horizontal field of view is 87°, a little wider than the S3's 80° wide-angle lens.
Do not plan on it. Each maker lists the OPS modules it supports: Dahua lists its own, such as the DHI-SP-PI5C82IS, for its DeepHub boards, and Huawei lists an optional OPS module for the IdeaHub. Order the module each brand specifies for the exact model, so it fits the slot and stays covered by support.
Yes. Dahua's MC480-U-S2 and MC470-C-S3 support one-tap casting from phones, tablets and laptops, with several screens shown at once, while Huawei's IdeaHub shares through its IdeaShare app and Wi-Fi 6 projection, and the S3 adds ultrasonic discovery and 9-pane projection. Test your visitors' usual devices on the shortlisted model before rollout.
Blue Edge supplies both ranges, from Dahua's DeepHub education and business boards to Huawei's IdeaHub S2, S3, B3 and B3 Base, for projects across Saudi Arabia.
